N.B.: quarters 2 and 3 should bear a gold lion on a black field
by Jaume Ollé and Jorge Candeias
Red flag with a canton of: quarterly 1 and 4 blue-white lozengy; 2 and 3 plain black. Usage is uncertain.
Norman Martin, August 1998
This flag is known to have existed at the beginning of the 19th century and it is supposed to had been a royal palace flag. The canton is quartered of Bavaria and Rhine Palatinate (sable, a double tailed lion or, crowned, armed and langued gules: not plain black).
Mario Fabretto, 3 August 1998
This flag shows the 1835 arms with the escutcheon with the orb, which was not used after 1804 which must mean that either it is a pre-1804 flag or that it is wrong.
